Grand Slam Alliance Partner Members
The Grand Slam Alliance is a collaboration between two local Belize organizations - Peninsula Citizens for Sustainable Development (PCSD) and Ambergris Caye Citizens for Sustainable Development (ACCSD) - and the international group, Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide (ELAW). Read more about these three organizations:
PCSD was formed in 2006 by residents from all communities on the Placencia Peninsula concerned about the rapid, unplanned, poorly executed and unsustainable tourism development of the Peninsula. PCSD has since expanded its agenda to also tackle pollution from agriculture and aquaculture, mangrove deforestation, coral reef preservation, climate change, water quality and quantity, over-dredging and dredging in fragile environments, destruction of wetlands and garbage and sewage management. PCSD also works to preserve local cultures and the continued ownership of the Peninsula by local businesses and residents.
ACCSD was created by residents of the island who see an urgent need for planned sustainable use of our coastal and marine resources. Members of the organization come from varied backgrounds and professions but share a common interest of conserving the environment through proper planning as responsible stewards. ACCSD's mission is to support and promote sustainable development on Ambergris Caye and in its surrounding area through education, awareness and citizen involvement.
The Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide (ELAW) protects the earth’s resources by helping communities speak out for clean air, clean water, and a healthy planet. We are a global alliance of attorneys, scientists and other advocates collaborating across national borders to support grassroots efforts to build a sustainable future.
